Super
Très belle achat ! La couverture rigide et rustique plus l'extérieur des pages doré donne à ce livre un vrai charme. Je n'ai pas encore lus l'entièreter du livre mais j'ai trouvé l'ajout du rubban pour guarder la page super utile et esthétique.

Publié par une excellente maison d'édition américaine, Canterbury Classics, en 2011, Ce recueil regroupe, comme son titre l'indique, sept romans parmi les plus connus de l'écrivain écossais Robert-Louis Stevenson (1850-1894). Ces romans sont, dans leur ordre de présentation: Treasure Island, Prince Otto, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Kidnapped, The Black Arrow, The Master of Ballantrae et David Balfour.

Publié en 1883, Treasure Island est un roman d'aventures dont l'intrigue se déroule au XVIIIème siècle. Elle a pour héros un jeune garçon audacieux et honnête, Jim Hawkins, et Long John Silver, un forban à la personnalité complexe, qui ne connaît que la loi du plus fort et qui réussira à s'emparer d'une partie du trésor. Inspiré d'une nouvelle d'Edgar Allan Poe, Le Scarabée d'or (1843), ce roman est devenu très rapidement un archétype des romans d'aventures. Foisonnant de péripéties et de personnages hauts en couleurs, Treasure Island, de par son rythme haletant, la densité de son intrigue et l'attention portée à la «psychologie» des personnages, se dévoile progressivement comme étant bien plus qu'un roman d'aventures; il est aussi le récit initiatique, douloureux et captivant, du passage de l'enfance à l'âge adulte pour le héros-narrateur de l'histoire, Jim Hawkins.

Publié en 1885, Prince Otto occupe une place à part dans l'univers de Stevenson. Ni tragédie ni comédie ni parodie, Price Otto se situe peut-être à la confluence de ces trois genres. Ce roman narre les aventures d'un prince fantoche, Otto, un noble incompétent et velléitaire, qui a délégué la gouvernance de son royaume à son épouse, Amélie-Séraphine, elle-même sous l'emprise du premier ministre, le baron de Gondremark. Otton est tout à fait isolé dans ses occupations futiles, avec pour seul ami son cousin, le savant Gotthold, qui refuse de l'aider das ses affaires d'État. À la suite d'un savant jeu d'intrigues, Gondremark fomente une rébellion et, avec la complicité d'Amélie-Séraphine, décide d'envahir leur petit voisin, le duché de Gerolstein Contraints à l'exil, les deux époux impériaux assistent à la transformation de leur royaume en république tout en redécouvrant leur amour.
