The obverse of the fifty-cent coin offers someting new for 2002-a design that first appeared on a 1953 bronze coronation medal and is now being used to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the accession to thethrone by Her Majesry Queen Elizabeth II. The twenty-five cent coin hails Canada's 135th birthday. Designed by Judith Chartier, it featuresrevelers celebrating on, and around, a maple leaf. Mintage has been limited to 50 000 sets worldwide.
