Description
Each turn in the game represents a conversation between you and the hostage taker. You'll play cards and roll dice to increase conversation points, decrease the threat level, and release hostages. Hostage Negotiator uses a unique "hand-building" mechanism that puts cards you purchase directly in your hand for next turn rather than leaving you wondering when the cards will show up like in deck-building games.
In Hostage Negotiator there are multiple paths to victory, but the hostage taker has other plans. Will you try to calm him and get him to surrender? Will you stall and bide your time before sending in the team for a major extraction? How many hostages will you save? These are many of the exciting decisions you will make in a game of Hostage Negotiator!

Good base game - but Final Girl is better
This game runs on the same "core" as the game "Final Girl" - but this game came first, and it definitely shows. You are a hostage negotiator trying to rescue victims from an abductor. On your turn, you play cards, roll dice to find how successful they are, and apply the effects - which could be to gain conversation points, lower or raise the threat level, save victims, and so on. The dice have 3 blank sides, 2 success sides, and 1 where you can discard cards to succeed. After your turn, you use conversation points to buy cards, and then the abductor turns over a Terror card where generally bad things happen. If you don't win by the time you run out of Terror cards (or victims...) then you've lost. It feels initially like the game is very random, but as you play and learn the game, you learn how to exert some control over your turn. This is definitely a game and series that rewards experience and learning how to play. The ruleset for this game was polished in Final Girl, which is kind of a 2nd edition of the game with a different theme, and also a map to move around in. Most of the time I see myself preferring to play Final Girl, however Hostage Negotiator has the benefit that it plays in a third to half the time, as there's just less going on in a game, so it definitely has a place on the shelf alongside. |

Merci. |

Fun Game | |
This may not be a good choice for completionists as it seems to have about a dozen expansions. However, if you want a game that creates a nice puzzle to work through, this is an excellent game. Be aware this is a solo game for one player. |

Wow! | |
Quelle belle surprise! Set-up rapide, sessions de 20 à 30 minutes. Facilement transportable.
