2024 COLORED "150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF L. M. MONTGOMERY" 1-DOLLAR - BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED (BU)
The 2024 $1 commemorative circulation coin pays tribute to L. M. Montgomery (1874-1942), a Canadian literary icon whose writing is treasured by millions worldwide. On the 150th anniversary of her birth, the creator of Anne of Green Gables is the first author to be featured on a Canadian circulation coin, and, fittingly, its design celebrates her creativity. The reverse of the coin offers a colourful view of the Prince Edward Island landscape that inspired so many of Montgomery’s stories, and through her, the world.
A nod to the power of imagination. Flowing from the engraved portrait of the Anne of Green Gables author putting pen to paper, the design moves into the rich inner world of L. M. Montgomery, where the fictional Anne Shirley gazes out at the colourful P.E.I. landscape immortalized in Montgomery’s stories.
The artist, Brenda Jones, has a family connection to Anne of Green Gables: her grandparents owned the original house and grounds associated with the story.
This is the first Canadian commemorative circulation coin issued in 2024 and the first of its kind to feature the new Canadian effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.

| What a treat to see this iconic Canadian author memorialized on our coins. L.M. Montgomery was a prolific writer and I loved all her series of books as a child. I still own and enjoy reading many of them as an adult and the younger members of our family are avid readers and coin collectors too! | |
