The bright and colorful wing patterns of butterflies are a marvel. And every summer, people around the world are witness to a fluttering art show as these natural works of art take flight. Antartica is the only continent without butterflies.
Ofthe 24,000 species in the world, Canada in home to 297 of them, including the Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria cybele), one of 26 species of fritillaries that can be found from coast to coast. they are divided into two groups; "greater" and "lesser", and the GReat Spangled Fritillary is one of the largest and most widespread of the greater fritillaries.
Two coins were released each year in this series from2004 to 2006: one coloured, and one with an hologram.
These are the 6 coins which are part of the serie:
Colored coins:
- the Clouded Sulphur, released in 2004
- the Monarch, released in 2005;
- the Short-tailled Swallowtail, released in 2006.

- the Tiger Swallowtail, released in 20
