Description
Giants of prehistory
It is a discovery that sends hearts pounding - and opens a window to the mystifyingworld of dinosaurs. Their fossilized bones testify to the massive beasts that once ruled the earth but disappeared suddenly 65 millions years ago.
Parasaurolophus (meaning "similarto the crested lizard" in reference to another dinosaur named Saurolophus) was one of 12 duck-billed dinosaurs that flourished throughout Alberta between 65 and 76 million years ago. It is easilyidentified by the six-foot long crest curving out from the back of its head which paleontologists believe was used for communication - an important capability for these rather docile herbivores that relied on their herds for protection.
This coin is the first issue of the Dinosaurs collection.
The first coin of the series, released in 2007, depicts the Parasaurolophus.
The second coin of the series, released in 2008, depicts the Triceratops.
The third coin of the series, released in 2009, depicts the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The fourth coin of the series, released in 2010, depicts the Dromaeosaurus.
The fifth coin of the series, released in 2010, depicts the Euoplocephalus.
DINOSAUR FOSSILS - PARASAUROLOPHUS - 2007 CANADIAN COINS 01 is categorised COINS AND PAPER MONEY / 08- ROYAL CANADIAN MINT / 11- DINOSAURS & PREHISTORIC ANIMALS and sold by l'Imaginaire, a store and specialised website.
