Description
Orca
The name, '' Killer Whale '' inspires awe, but has an indiscriminating tone to I. Imust eat like any other and carefully orchestrate my hunts with othermembers of my pod. We are very vocal as we strategize and make clicking sounds to locate our food, partcularly in murky water. Fish, particurlarly salmon, are by far my most common meal, but sometimes, I swim close to shore in search of a sea lion, sea otter, or penguin. Or, if I'm in an inter-tidal area at high tide, an unsuspecting deer, moose or wild pig may fall as my prey.
I have no natural predators. I do not fear humans. In fact, I have often befriended them in the wild; even entertained you from the confines of your tiny man-made oceans. But it is the liberty of free-flowing waters I long for.
This coin is the third issue of the Wildlife conservation series.
The first coin of the series, released in July 2010, depicts the Barn owl.
The second coin of the series, released in November 2010, depicts the Polar bear.
The third coin of the series, released in March 2011, depicts the Orca whale.
The fourth and the last coin of the series, released in July 2011, depicts the Black-footed ferret.
WILDLIFE CONSERVATION - ORCA WHALE - 2011 CANADIAN COINS 03 is categorised COINS AND PAPER MONEY / 08- ROYAL CANADIAN MINT / 10- FLORA, FAUNA & NATURE and sold by l'Imaginaire, a store and specialised website.
