Asterix mini-medal
Asterix and the Griffin
One year after the passing of Uderzo, the Monnaie de Paris wanted to pay tribute to the creator and illustrator of the most famous Gaulish character: Asterix.
The year 2021 also marks the release of the new album of the saga: "Asterix and the Griffin". In this new adventure, the two Gauls and their druid Getafix are about to embark on a long and mysterious journey.
This silver-coloured mini-medal marks thelaunch of the 39th album of Asterix's adventures: Asterix and the Griffin. Onthe obverse, Asterix and Obelix are trying to recover Dogmatix, who is perched on aworrying creature.
This mini-medal is limitedto 20,000 copies.
Translating comic book characters is an interesting but perilous exercise. The transition from comic strip to volume must faithfully transcribe the clear line of Uderzo’s and Conrad‘s work. These medals are the faithful representation of a graphic line proper to the french artist, it is a tribute in three dimensions paid by the craftsmen of Monnaie de Paris to the universe of Asterix.
