Asterix 2024 10€ Colorised Silver Coin
Asterix and the Olympic Games: Podium
To celebrate Asterix's athletic exploits, Monnaie de Paris is exclusively minting a shaped coin depicting the most famous of Gauls. Standing on the highest step of the podium, Asterix proudly carries a laurel branch in his hand as a reward for his sports achievements.
The reverse of the coin is engraved with pictograms relating to sport and Olympism, and features the coin's face value, its year of issue and the initials RF for "République Française".
Translating comic book characters is an interesting but perilous exercise. The transition from comic strip to volume must faithfully transcribe the clear line of Uderzo’s and Conrad‘s work. These coins are the faithful representation of a graphic line proper to the french artist, it is a tribute in three dimensions paid by the craftsmen of Monnaie de Paris to the universe of Asterix.
