With seven victories in 18 Grey Cup appearances, the rich history of the Montréal Alouettes is an interal part of this year's celebration of the 100th Grey Cup. The most memorable Alouettes' Grey Cup win is captured on this commemorative stamp : the Ice Bowl. At the 65th Grey Cup game played in 1977 in Montréal's Olympic Stadium, icy field conditions wreaked havoc on both teams. Alouettes defensive back Tony Proudfoot had the idea to put staples in the soles of his andhis teammates' shoes. The huge traction advantage helped Montréal dominate Edmonton 41-6. This 25-cent commemorative coin salutes Montréal's great performance that day as well as decades of thrilling moments on the field.
