Founded in 1923 by Walt Disney, Disney Animation studio’s are celebrating 100 years of stories and magic. Historically established as “Disney Brothers Studios”, the American studio has produced more than 150 films and hundreds of animated shorts since its creation. The characters created by the studio's animators have crossed time and generations, continuing to amaze adults and children alike.
To celebrate the centenary of the Disney studios, Monnaie de Paris is paying tribute to Walt Disney's titanic legacy by minting a collection of coins featuring characters from his universe.
Donald Duck first appeared in the Disney universe in 1934 in the short film "A Wise Little Hen”. With his quick temper, unique voice and contagious sense of humor, Donald Duck has captured the hearts of audiences around the world. Since his first impression, he has become an iconic character and a staple of the Disney family, appearing in numerous films, television series, and of course in comic books by comic strip illustrator Carl Barks.
The reverse of the coins in this collection feature the character of Mickey Mouse, along with a frieze of engraved characters from the Walt Disney animation studio’s universe. This reverse also presents the face value of the coin and the acronym "RF" (French Republic).
This new collection celebrates the timeless magic of Walt Disney's heritage through exceptional coins, where historic characters from the Disney studios meet the millennia-old skills of La Monnaie de paris to offer an unforgettable experience for collectors and fans of the license.
