Description
To Dream Upon a Sail - Three-Masted Ship
The full rigged three-masted ship was a faithful ocean-going vessel that transported cargo and travellers from Canada all over the world in the 19th century. It was square rigged on all masts in order tocoast downwind with the prevailing winds while its fore-and-aft sailsenabled the ship to sail closer into the wind-and with every gust, the sails filled with the promise of adventure, riches and fame.
Perhaps this is why tall ships have such a powerful allure. Despite the modern ability to travel fast, higher and deeper, we are transfixed to every time these magnificent vessels grace Canadian ports. We are reminded of the importance of dreams. After all, our nation wasborn upon the tall ship's sail.
This coin is the first issue of the Tall Ships collection.
The first coin of the series, released in 2005, depicts the Three-Masted Ship.
The second coin of the series, released in 2006, depicts the Ketch.
The third and the last coin of the series, released in 2007, depicts the Brigantine.
