For 2022, the Royal Canadian Mint is elevating a classic to new heights by introducing the first ever ultra-high relief Gold Maple Leaf (GML) and Silver Maple Leaf (SML) coins. Crafted in an impressive-sized (65.25 mm) 99.99% pure silver format, this 5 oz. SML features the iconic design that embodies the pride and beauty of Canada. But by adding more height—and as a result, more dimension—Walter Ott’s inspiring maple leaf also represents our spirit of innovation and our ability to broaden our horizons by building on a tradition of excellence.

 Elevating a classic. On this SML’s reverse, the design gradually reaches an extraordinary relief height of 3 mm, much higher than the standard 0.80 mm you’d normally see on a piece this size.
 A personal connection. The relief was sculpted by retired Senior Engraver Susan Taylor, who began her career at the Mint under the tutelage of Walter Ott, creator of this world-famous design.
 Reverse proof finish. Set against a frosted field, the ultra-high relief truly dazzles thanks to a mirror-like shine that reflects maximum light.
 Low mintage. This large-sized (65.25 mm) SML is a limited work of art: only 1,250 are available to collectors worldwide
