Description
THE TRANSFORMERS JOIN THE ENERGON UNIVERSE!
Optimus Prime was supposed to have led the Autobots to victory. Instead, the fate of Cybertron is unknown, and his allies have crash-landed far from home, alongside their enemies—the Decepticons. As these titanic forces renew their war on Earth, one thing is immediately clear: the planet will never be the same. New alliances are struck. Battle lines are redrawn. And humanity’s only hope of survival is Optimus Prime.
Superstar creator Daniel Warren Johnson (Do a Powerbomb, Wonder Woman: Dead Earth), alongside showrunner Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Invincible), reimagines Hasbro’s robots in disguise for a brand-new generation.

DWJ's best work yet... not that that's saying much | |
I wasn't thrilled when I heard that a comic book creator best known for trying too hard to be "MeTaL" got his hands on the Robots in Disguise. I don't like the completely unnecessary and very half-assed attempt to make some kind of Hasbroverse, combining brands that don't need to, and treating the Joe brand like crap. But in this trade (and certainly his article at the end of the first issue, not reprinted in this volume), Daniel Warren Johnson proves that he really gets the Transformers and his love for the brand -- which is not something we ever see in any kind of official Transformers media anymore. A retelling of the Robots in Disguise reawakening on Earth, with plenty of nods to the past and (other than a few designs and lines of dialogue), could've been set in the '80s, complete with 'Nam flashbacks and the pain of the Challenger Explosion. Easter eggs and plenty of references feel a bit too "hey guys, aren't I cool?" and stand out more than they should, as does DWJ's needlessly-'tude-filled style. At one point, he even has song lyrics appear in the background, like one of his "hey, you guys, metal, am I right?" books, but they aren't even the lyrics to The Touch. Swing and a miss... ...but still, this trade hits more than it misses. As a long-time Transformers fan who's been consistently disappointed with the comics since IDW's Escalation set up a payoff that never happened, it was a breath of fresh air to have a reason to look forward to Transformers comics again, even if they revisited familiar ground, and if only for six issues. |

Excellent | |
J’avais entendu parler de cette nouvelle série mais je me disais que j’allais le lire plus tard et ce plus tard est arriver. Image comics nous ont fait une très bonne nouvelle version des transformers et j’ai hâte de voir la suite. |
