Canada's National Flag

In 1964, an all-party, 15 members special committee was appointed by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson to create a new Canadian Flag. The proposed design incorporated a stylized red maple leaf, long time symbol of Canada, on a white backgroundflanked by two red bars. Red and white were sanctioned the country's national colours by the royal proclamation granting Canada's Coat of Arms in 1921.

It was 25 years ago, on February 15, 1965, that Canada's distinctive national flag was officially unfurled for the firsttime.
This coin is part of the 200-dollar coin collection which began in 1990. A coin has been released every year since then.
