Racers can reach speeds of more than 130 kilometres an hour, travelling down a vertical drop that ranges from 800 to 1,100 metres. Canada's first Olympic alpine gold came atthe Squaw Valley 1960 Olympic Winter Games in California. Canada's most recent alpine medla, a bronze in downhill, was won at the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Norway.
From 2007 to 2010, fifteen twenty-five cent coins were issued to celebrate the 2010 VancouverOlympic Winter Games. The series include ten winter sports designs, two paralympic special issues and three designs that represent previousCanadian Winter Olympics medals. Also, two Lucky Loon were issued as a good luck symbol to support canadian athletes in 2008 and 2010.
