Description
A Canadian Celebration of Mind, Body and Will
Cross country skiing for men appeared at the 1924 Chamonix Olympic Winter Games in France. Women's events debuted at the Oslo 1952 Olympic Winter Games in Norway. Racers use two basics techniques: classical, where the skis move parallel to each other; and freestyle, where one ski points straight ahead and the other pushes off like a skate. Canada's first cross country skiing medal - gold -was won at the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Utah. Canada most recently won gold in the Women's Sprint event at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Italy.
