Canada's beloved pastime made its Olympic debut at the Antwerp 1920 Olympic Summer Games in Belgium, where the Canadian men's team took home their first Olympic gold medal. Women's ice hockey premiered at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Japan, where the Canadian women's team won silver. Canada has a winning track record which includes both the men's and women's teams winning gold at the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Utah, and a gold medal for the women's team at the Torino 2006Olympic Winter Games in Italy.
From 2007 to 2010, fifteen twenty-five cent coins were issued to celebrate the 2010 Vancouver OlympicWinter Games. The series include ten winter sports designs, two paralympic special issues and three designs that represent previous Canadian Winter Olympics medals. Also, two Lucky Loon were issued as a good luck symbol to support canadian athletes in 2008 and 2010.
