The bright and colorful wing patterns of butterflies are a marvel. And every summer, people around the world are witness to a fluttering art show as these natural works of art take flight. Antartica is the only continent without butterflies.
Of the 24,000 species in the world, Canada in home to 297 of them, including the Clouded Sulphur (Colias philodice). This yellow butterfly is a familiar sight across Canada as far north as the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, dancing from flower to flower in gardens and open fields. Young males often congregate at puddles or other wet areas,abehavior that gave rise to the common name "Mud Puddle Butterfly".

The Clouded Sulphur can be seen from May until early November, but is most abundant during the latter part of the season.
