Description
Preserving the melody of a people's past
[...]
Newfoundland's oral traditions are brought to life through folk tales and a capella songs while a series of concerts and workshops explore the making and playing of Newfoundland's traditional instruments. Sounds from the past fill the air as a variety of bands recapture Newfoundland's rich musical heritage or blend it with the styles of various cultures and ages to create original tunes and songs with an uplifting contemporary flair. First Nation traditions such as throat singing may also be heard.
Music finds its physical expression in the Scottish country dancers and Newfoundland step-dancers that take to the stage while the recent addition of flamenco dancersreflects the growing diversityof arts in this province. Beyond music and dance, there is a bounty of crafts and traditional Newfoundland fare to satisfy any appetite.
