Kayaking on the river
Based on a photograph by Canadian nature photographer Daniel Dagenais, the reverse offers a first-person perspective of a kayak excursion on a river in Quebec. In the crisp morning air, the clouded sunrise and the fog rolling off the steep cliffs add to the sense of stillness in the air. The application of vibrant colour over engraving recreates the life-like qualities of the original photograph, in which the stern of the bright bluekayak contrasts with the muted green and grey colours of the untamed landscape.
This coin is the second issue of Celebrating Canada's 150th collection. A totalof 13 coins, representing the 13 Canadian provinces and territories, will be released every month between June 2016 and July 2017.
