Description
Designing a nation's character
The Coat of Arms for New Brunswick (NB) evolved over the course of more than a century. On May 26, 1868, Queen Victoria first assigned the Provincial Shield featuring a gold lion (symbolizing England) on a redbackground with an ancient galley below to represent the province's shipbuilding and maritime history.
The crest and motto followed in 1966 by Order of Lieutenant Governor in Council. Spem Redxit was inspired by the province's greatest seal. It means "Hope restored" and refers to New Brunswick's role as a refuge for United Empire Loyalists.
Other features were assigned by Royal Warrant of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 24, 1984, New Brunswick's bi-centennial. These augmentations included a crest of an Atlantic salmon with St. Edward's crown and a golden royal helmet above the Shield; a grassy mound covered with fiddleheads and purple violets (the province's floral emblem); and two white tailed deer. Each deer wearing a wampum collar and is presented with a small shield. The Union Badge represents English, Scottish and Irish settlers while the Royal Arms of France on the right acknowledges French settlement.
This coin is the sixth issue of the Coats Of Arms of Canada collection and contains 14 coins that have been released between 2008 and 2014.
COATS OF ARMS OF CANADA - COAT OF ARMS OF NEW BRUNSWICK - 2010 CANADIAN COINS 06 is categorised COINS AND PAPER MONEY / 08- ROYAL CANADIAN MINT / 25- GOLD, PLATINE & PALLADIUM COINS and sold by l'Imaginaire, a store and specialised website.
