The DouglasMaple (Acer glabrum var. douglasii), which is native to the region from British Columbia's PacificcoastlinetothefoothillsoftheRockyMountainsinAlberta,hasbeenusedbyaboriginalpeoplesforthousandsofyears.Initshardbutpliablestructuretheyfoundthestrengthand flexibility necessary for implements like snowshoes, fishing tools, bows, and more. Others used its inner bark layer for twine and rope.
