Never before has the Mint issued a coin with a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as a young child, and our first coin to do so is also our first coin ever to feature a repoussé-inspired technique. Princess Elizabeth’s portrait is robust, its relief rising over 5mm from the surface of the coin. It’s the first of three coins in this incomparable subscription celebrating Canada’s beloved monarch—an esteemed royal who is respected throughout the world for her legacy of duty, devotion and forward-thinking leadership.
The reverse portrait design by Canadian artist Bonnie Ross depicts Princess Elizabeth at a young age. The princess is portrayed with a three-quarter view instead of the traditional side profile, and is flanked by two rows of maple leaves.
