Long ago in China, the Jade Emperor decided there should be a way of measuring time and announced a swimming race to the animals. The first twelve animals to cross the fast-flowing river would each have a year of the zodiac named after them.

The last animal to arrive was the Pig. "I was hungry and stopped to eat," explained the Pig. "After the meal, I was so tired that I had to take a nap."

"You still finished", said the Emperor and named the last year of the zodiac after the Pig.
