Description
The Identification of Nickel
The reverse image features Stephen Trenka’s 1951 commemorative nickel design, which was originally engraved by the Mint’s legendary masterengraver, Thomas Shingles. Here, the original 12-sided coin design has been enhanced thanks to multiple finishes and selective gold plating, which bring added depth and definition to the iconic image. With itslong smoke stack rising up in the centre, the nickel refinery is beautifully rendered with finely detailed engraving, as are the three maple leaves below it.
This coin is the fourth issue of the Legacy of the Canadian Nickel series.
The first coin of the series, released in February 2015, depicts the Crossed Maple Boughs.
The second coin of the series, released in March 2015, depicts the Two Maple Leaves.
The third coin of the series, released in April 2015, depicts the Victory.
The fourth coin of the series, released in May 2015, depicts the Identification of Nickel.
The fifth coin of the series, released in June 2015, depicts the Centennial 5-cent.
The sixth and the last coin of the series, released in July 2015, depicts the Beaver.
