1964 Uncirculated Proof-Like Set
It was in 1953 that the uncirculated proof-like sets were released. From 1953 to 1960, these sets were wrapped in a simple cellophane sheet and placed on a plain white sheet of paper. In 1961, the Royal Canadian Mint decided to alter the packaging. The new sets were to be sealed in between 2 sheets of pliofilm and placed inside a protective envelope. This form of packaging is still being used today. Throughout the years, certain modifications were made in the presentation of the products. The coins shown in the uncirculated proof-like sets are identical to the ones releasedto the public during their respective years. However, the coins chosen for these sets have been carefully inspected and are therefore defect free.
In 1964, there are two varieties of the 1-dollar coin. On the first, we can read Thomas Shingles' initials ("T.S.") around the inner circle of the coin. He was the one who prepared the model from the original drawing of Dinko Vodanovic. On the second, there is a missing point between the T and the S of the initials, giving "T S." They each hold theirrespective names of "With Dot" and "No Dot".
This set is part of the Uncirculated Proof-Like Sets collection.
