It was in 1953 that the uncirculated proof-like sets were released. From 1953 to 1960, these sets were wrapped in a simple cellophane sheet and placed on a plain white sheet of paper. In 1961, the Royal Canadian Mint decided to alter the packaging. The new sets were to be sealed in between 2 sheets of pliofilm and placed inside a protective envelope. This form of packaging is still being used today. Throughout the years, certain modifications were made in the presentation of the products. The coins shown in the uncirculated proof-like sets are identical to the ones released to the public during their respective years. However, the coins chosen for these sets have been carefully inspected and are therefore defect free.
In 1967, the rising price of silver resulted in reduction of the silver content from .800 to .500 in the 10-cent and the 25-cent coins. You can find the two varieties in the uncirculated proof-like sets. However, the two varieties are not distinguishable by apparance.
This set is part of the Uncirculated Proof-Like Sets collection.
