Second World War: The Battle of Dieppe
They came by sea and by air on August 19, 1942, nearly 5,000 Canadians were at the forefront of “Operation Jubilee,” when Allied forces launched alarge-scale assault on the occupied French port of Dieppe. It was to be Canada’s first army offensive of the European campaign; but against a well-fortified enemy, Canada suffered its heaviest single-daylosses of the Second World War.
