The successor to the Royal Canadian Mint’s Big Coin series of 5 oz 99.99% pure silver coins, The Bigger Picture zooms in on Canada’s classic circulation coin designs and zooms out to reveal a much bigger story. By re-imagining the dollar’s loon as one half of a breeding pair, the newly expanded scene highlights the beauty of Canada’s freshwater ecosystems.

 A “loonie" anniversary. Canada’s $1 circulation coin, the Loonie, turns 35 this year! Its namesake bird appears on this coin’s reverse, where the iconic coin design is now part of a new, expanded lake scene by artist Claude Thivierge.
 Coin #4. This is the fourth coin in a six part series that shows Canada’s classic circulation coin designs in a whole new way.
 5 oz 99.99% pure silver. Each coin in this series features a diameter of 65.25 mm (the same as the Big Coin series), which provides lots of room for elaborate art and complex engraving - including a maple leaf field pattern on the obverse.
 Selective gold plating. The $1 circulation design is selectively gold plated to mimic the look of the loonie.
