- In the first 100 years of Confederation, the story of Canada was shaped by our efforts to bridge distances and come together — first by rail, then by sea, and finally, by air. It is the story that unfolds in the Royal Canadian Mint’s The First 100 Years of Confederation series, a three-part celebration of some of the mechanized history makers that helped shape a modern Canada.
- History on the move. Second coin in a three-part series that tells the story of Canada’s first 100 years (1867-1967). Each coin is a separate chapter represented by a different mode of transportation and art style.
- Coin #2 takes to the seas to tell the story of Canada’s coming of age (1914-1945). This was an era in which a young nation found itself navigating uncertain waters made murkier by two world wars, which catapulted Canada onto the world stage.
- Art deco style. Coin #2 features the art deco design style of the inter-war years (1918-1939). Art deco was considered the successor to art nouveau, which was featured on Coin #1.
- Five effigies on one coin. The obverse features the effigies of five monarchs whose combined reigns span a century of change. Each effigy is accompanied by a Latin inscription stating the monarch’s name and royal title, as seen on some of Canada’s most historic coins.
