The golden colour of the one dollar coin blends brilliantly with the kangaroos portrayed on the reverse side of the coin.
Varying the theme slightly, the 50 cent coin features an impression of the Australian Coat of Arms in its traditional format, supported by a kangaroo and an emu.
On the 20 cent coin is portrayed one of the world's rarest and unique animal - the platypus.
The 10 cent coin shows a male lyrebird with its colourful lire-shaped tail expanded upwards, dancing to attract a mate.
Features on the 5 cent coin is another unique Australian mammal - the echidna, or a spiny ant eater.
On the 2 cent coin the frilled lizard of Northern Australia is displayed.
It is only natural that our smallest coin should portray one of our smallest animal - the feather-tailed glider.
