Description
Eldritch Horror: Masks of Nyarlathotep is an expansion for Eldritch Horror, a cooperative boardgame for one to eight players where intrepid investigators must traverse the globe in an attempt to thwart the cataclysmic rise of an otherworldly Ancient One. Strange cults are gathering strength in remote corners and bustling cities all over the world. Though they seem to worship different gods, the investigators have found a thread that runs throughout all of the cultists’ horrific rites.

This expansion has more content than small boxes, but not as much as the usual big boxes. Most notable is the absence of a sideboard, something the other 3 big boxes expansions all have. Nevertheless, it adds 7 new investigators, 2 new ancient ones (and Nyarlathotep is a blast to play against!), more cards for all decks, and 2 new mechanics. The first one is the addition of resources: as an action, an investigator can obtain a resource, which is used to add a success during an Acquire Asset action, or to recover more health/sanity during a Rest action. The second new mechanic is the personal quest: each investigator has a condition for success (closing X number of gates, defeat X number of monsters, etc.) and a condition for defeat (drop to 1 health/sanity, another investigator is devoured, etc.). There's a reward and a consequence depending on which condition was fulfilled first. The personal quests are not random, each investigator has one and it will always be the same from game to game. |

Final and complete | |
This last big box expansion to the game is the first to not have an added sideboard. But instead, it adds some new varied features to the game that makes it more interesting and complete, like new "resources" tokens, new characters personal quest stories for each investigator, new clearer rules cards, new campaign mode and more. If you like the game, this is a great addition, with two new ancient one and a second deck of new mystic ruins encounter cards (like the one in Strange Remnants expansion). |
