Plagued by a maddening anxiety, the terrible disconnect between his own concept of happiness and the joy of the rest of the world, Yozo Oba plays the clown in his dissolute life, holding up a mask for those around him as he spirals ever downward, locked arm-in-arm with death.
Osamu Dazai’s immortal―and supposedly autobiographical―work of Japanese literature, is perfectly adapted here into a manga by Junji Ito. The imagery wrenches open the text of the novel one line at a time to sublimate Yozo’s mental landscape into something even more delicate and grotesque. This is the ultimate in art by Ito, proof that nothing can surpass the terror of the human psyche.

| Junji Ito ne cessera jamais de m'impressionner avec ses œuvres. Il ne suit pas l'histoire d'Osamu Dazai jusqu'au bout, mais la façonne juste assez pour l'adapter à son propre style. | |

| Je viens tout juste de terminer le livre et au grand jamais je n'aurais pensé qu'un livre de junji ito pourrais être triste et émotionnelle toujours en maintenant sont style d'horreur et d'illustrations. Dans le romans on suit le déroulement de la vie de Oba Yozo et de ses malheurs. Au fil de la lecture, un développement psychologique vas ce laisser apparaitre chez le personnage et être tourmenté par ses choix de vie. No longer human est beaucoup plus psychologique et complexe dans les émotions que comparativement aux autres manga d'horreur produit par l'hauteur... Incroyable histoire. Je recommande très fortement! |
