Description
Hametsu is a solo / co-op monster hunting game set in post-apocalyptic feudal Japan. You take on the role of Hunters, warriors trained to fight back against a tide of Oni demons and mythical creatures let loose by The Cataclysm. You will choose from nine distinct classes, spread across three different schools, and create interesting and powerful Hunters.
Once your Hunters are ready it's time to head out in search of dangerous beasts. At the start of a game of Hametsu, you will have the element of surprise. Oni wander around the table and are unaware of the Hunters’ presence. Once the alarm is raised, the Hunters will be pursued and targeted by the Oni until the Boss is found. Once it shows itself, it's up to you to bring it down!
As you complete hunts and lead your Hunters down their class specific Path of Legend you will level up, gain new abilities and gear, and equip ancient artifacts.

Post-Cataclysm Skirmish in the Historic Japan | |
Another one of my current efforts to get placed on the skirmish table for a group of four players (including myself). Set in a post-cataclysmic 1600s Japan, or any version of an oriental setting you might prefer! Like many other hsitorical genres, I'm a fan of various historical wargame settings and this is unique and hackable, as well as being miniatures and terrain agnostic, although the publisher does sell a line of minis for this too. You can create one of almost a dozen characters (by class) that operate as a group taking on threats in that hostile world. The majority of threats are in the form of Oni and related spirits overtaking the world, a threat to humanity. Rules are definitely not complex, seem flexible (yet to be tested in play), provide multiple player options and paths, multiple threat Oni, spirits, Dragons, undead and their ilk, all of which are designed to operate independently based on the situation presented under their stat cards and the phase of play (monster AI). Multiple scenarios are provided, which can be weaved into a campaign, as well as a random mission and environment generator, all you need after that is figures/standees, whatever works for you as scatter terrain, dice, pencil, paper, 3x3 feet of tabletop and friends. Artwork is very thematic and evokes the feel of the game you might like to portray. Production value - Excellent! Very pretty and solid book and a decent read. |
