Great Idea, But A Bit Complex
Rules in English only. A co-operative trick-taking game for 2 players: "Jekyll", "Hyde", going against an automated "Scotland Yard." With 1 of 10 scenarios ("Chapters") with modified rules, you each play cards in your hand to make a trick ("Scotland Yard" plays the top card of their hand). The winner keeps the trick, and you play the next set of cards. In the end, the number of tricks the two players win determine how to move your Marker on a board of 11 spaces, and how to move the Police Marker. If you reach the final spot of the board without the Police catching up, you win. Fantastic idea, very thematic, beautiful art and components. However, I found the rules to be needlessly complicated, primarily because of the Potion (white) cards and the "Reaction" effects they cause. Their effects are labelled on 3 circle tokens... but the tokens aren't used for the effects at all? It's complex enough already to keep track of how you're doing in a round... even if both players show their hands (not supposed to), it's an odd puzzle. This is a spin-off of "Jekyll & Hyde" (a competitive game) with similar rules. In fact, the components seem similar enough that you could use this box to play that version of the game. But the rules aren't included for that, a missed opportunity not to have both in the same box.
