Juillet 1907, Amédée est un de ces soldats qui charrient à dos d'homme le matériel nécessaire à la construction de l'observatoire du Pic du Midi. Il rencontre Camille, un de ces messieursde l'observatoire, passionné par le Tour de France, la plus grande épreuve cycliste du monde, comme annoncé à sa création en 1903. Amédée n'est pas long à attraper le virus. Tout l'hiver durant, Amédée enchaîne les portages pour économiser l'argent nécessaire à l'achat de son premier Alcyon. Il prend tous les risques, jusqu'au jour où la montagne est la plus forte. Amédée passe une nuit entière dans les monts gelés.Il en sort vivant mais amputé de tous ses orteils. Ce n'est que le début de son incroyable odyssée.
