2005 Canada 40th Anniversary National Flag Gold Plated - Proof Silver Dollar
This coin was removed from the Proof Double Dollar Set. The Gold Plated dollar is only available in the set.
During World War I, Canadians used the Red Ensign to show their patriotism - a red field bearing the British Union flag and an amalgam of the coats of arms of the provinces. In 1921, King George V bestowed on Canada its own Royal Arms, which replaced the provincial arms on the Ensign. Fast forward to 1965 and, following a national effort, a new maple leaf flag, white bounded by red, was proclaimed by Queen Elizabeth II.
