ACanadian celebration of mind, body and will
One of Canada's most popular sports, curling was first played at the Chamonix 1924 Olympic Winter Games in France, and returned to the Nagano 1998 OlympicWinter Games in Japan. The game is played with two teams, each takingturns pushing 19.1 kilogram stones towards a series of concentric circles. The object is to get the stones as close to the centre of the rings as possible. The Canadian women's team, making its official debut at Nagano, won gold while the men captured a silver medal. More recently, Canada struck gold again at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Italy, with a victory by the men's team.
