The first coin travels to Canada’s Arctic region for a view of the great northern bear: Ursus maritimus, better known as the polar bear, the largest of Canada’s four resident bear species. This coin’s reverse offers a rare close encounter with this revered Arctic emblem, unguarded and seemingly unaware of the viewer’s presence, as it casually steps out of the framed centre portion.
