Description
Legend, Myth or Real-Life Monster?
About 150 kilometers southeast of Montreal, nestled between two mountains and crossing the borders of Quebec and Vermont, the deep black waters of Lake Memphremagog hold a mystery...
1816: In the first recorded sightings of the creature who has come to be known asMEmphré (pronounced MEM-fray), four different witnesses claim to see a large, smooth, black or green sea monster about six metres long swimming at great speeds near the surface of the lake.
1961: Two fishermen see a giant black creature swim past their boat, and we learn a little more about wath Memphré looks like whenthey describe four humps on its eel-like back and its large, block-shaped head.
1996: Four people watch the same creature swim by, fast as a speedboat--just three hours after three other people had seen it ten miles away.
Since the stories about Memphré and other lake creatures--like the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland and Ogopogo in British Columbia--are so similar, some scientistthink there ay be a species of water animal tha hasn't been discovered yet.
This coin is the second issue of the Canadian Mythical Creatures collection.
The first coin of the series, released in April 2011, depicts the Sasquatch.
The second coin of the series, released in July 2011, depicts the Memphre.
The third and the last coin of the series, released in October 2011, depicts the Mishepishu.
CANADIAN MYTHICAL CREATURES - MEMPHRE - 2011 CANADIAN COINS 02 is categorised COINS AND PAPER MONEY / 08- ROYAL CANADIAN MINT / 13- CANADIAN HISTORY and sold by l'Imaginaire, a store and specialised website.

Magnifique pièce colorée! | |
