Wolf

The reverse design by Canadian artist Claudio D’Angelo features a side view of a wolf (Canis lupus) in Canada’s boreal forest. Among the tall spruce trees, the wolf has made its way to the crest of a snow-covered hill, where it pauses to survey the frozen lake below. Its head is turned to the left, which allows a glimpse of its facial features. Throughout this winter scene, the combination of engraving and various finishing techniques adds striking depth to the design—especially the crisp impression of the wolf’s four-toed tracks, which are also engraved on the coin’s edge in a continuous pattern.

The first coin of the series, released in November 2016, depicts the Woodland Caribou.
The second coin of the series, released in January 2017, depicts the Polar Bear.
The third and last coin of the series, released in Febuary 2018, depicts the Wolf.
