25th Anniversary of the Last Patrol of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
The commemorative dollar marks the 25th anniversary of the last dog team patrol of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which took place from March 11 to April 5,1969, from old Crow, Yukon, to Fort McPherson, Nortwest Territories,and back. The patrol, led by Constable Warren Townsend and Special Constable Peter Benjamin covered 804.5 kilometres on sleds pulled by 21 purebred Siberian huskies. The design on the reverse of the coin, by Canadian artist Ian D.Sparkes, portrays a dog team Ied by an RCMP officer in the canadian North.
