Description
Grizzly Bear
The reverse design by Canadian big game sculptor Karl Lansing represents a sculptural celebration of a Canadian icon. Carefully shaped to resemble a grizzly bear (Ursus arctos), a silver gold-plated embellishment emerges from the coin’s flat surface to give it its multi-dimensional look and feel. The grizzly’s distinctive hump and concave facial profile are prominent, along with its rounded ears; as the bear pauses mid-step to look to the right, one yearns to touch the statuette’s ridged surface, which beautifully mimics the bear’s furry appearance.
This coin is the first issue of the Sculpture of Majestic Canadian Animals collection.
The first coin of the series, released in November 2016, depicts the Grizzly Bear.
The second coin of the series, released in February 2017, depicts the Cougar.
The third coin of the series, released in April 2017, depicts the Elk.
The fourth coin of the series, will released in June 2017, will depicts the Bighorn Sheep.
The fifth coin of the series, will released in September 2017, will depicts the Wolf.
