2022 $30 FINE SILVER COIN
THE RED KNIGHT
Before the Snowbirds, there was the Red Knight. From 1958 until 1969, the Red Knight delighted spectators across Canada and the United States with awe-inspiring aerobatic displays. The Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) solo jet-aerobatic performer was equipped with the T-33 Silver Star (or “T-Bird”, CT-133) and later, the CT-114 Tutor, which were decked out in a bright colour scheme, iconic red. These aircraft, along with one of the distinctive emblems they bore, have been colourfully recreated on this 2 oz. 99.99% pure silver tribute to the legendary (and much loved) Red Knight, whose show-stopping manoeuvres inspired a generation of air enthusiasts and enriched Canada’s aviation heritage.
Two aircraft that represent 12 years of history. The aircraft on the coin’s reverse represent the two different aircraft types that served as the mount of the Red Knight from its inception to the program’s cancellation: the T-33 Silver Star from 1958 to mid1968, and its eventual replacement, the CT-114 Tutor (1968-1969).
A 2 oz. 99.99% pure silver salute to the Red Knight’s legacy and its outstanding contribution to Canadian aviation history.
Even the backdrop is historic: the maple leaf is from the pre-1965 RCAF Roundel.
This is the Red Knight’s first appearance on a Canadian coin.
The Red Knight had a signature bright colour scheme and distinctive emblem, iconic red with a colourful knight’s helmet emblem recreated on the reverse side of the coin.
The Red Knight emblem repeats on the obverse, where it forms a laserengraved pattern that subtly catches the light.
Paint scheme and aircraft markings of the Red Knight T-33 and Tutor used with the permission of the Department of National Defence.
THE RED KNIGHT - 2022 CANADIAN COINS is categorised COINS AND PAPER MONEY / 08- ROYAL CANADIAN MINT / 17- MEANS OF TRANSPORT and sold by l'Imaginaire, a store and specialised website.
