Description
CITIUS...ALTIUS...FORTIUS (Faster...Higher...Stronger)
These three words, comprising the motto of the Olympic movement, encourage the athlete in all of us to give our best during competition, and to view this effort as its own victory.
[...]
The move toward a winter version of the Olympic Games began in 1908, when figure skating made an appearance at the Summer Games in London. Coincidentally, 1908 is the same year that the Roral Canadian Mint opened for business. While interest levels were stirring in 1908, the International Olympic Comittee did not sanction a separate Olympic Winter Games until 1924 at which time it was heldin Chamonix, France. The 11-day event was a huge success and includedNordic skiing, speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey and bobsleigh.
The first Olympic Winter Games held in Canada was in1988, in the city of Calgary, Alberta. In 2010, Canada proudly hostedthe XXI Olympic Winter Games, this time in Vancouver, British Columbia. To honor, the first Canadian athletes to achieve Vancouver 2010 gold medal victory on home soil, the Royal Canadian Mint was pleased to issue this highly symbolic coin. By celebrating another great Canadian achievement , the Mint makes it possible at once to celebrate and own this important moment for prosperity!
VANCOUVER 2010 - CANADA'S FIRST GOLD MEDAL AT HOME - 2010 CANADIAN COINS is categorised COINS AND PAPER MONEY / 08- ROYAL CANADIAN MINT / 25- GOLD, PLATINE & PALLADIUM COINS and sold by l'Imaginaire, a store and specialised website.
