ACanadian celebration of mind, body and will
The word "biathlon" comes from the Greek word for "two tests". A combination of cross country skiing and rifle shooting, Biathlon's first Olympic appearance for the men was at the Squaw Valley 1960 Olympic Winter Games in California. Women's biathlon joined the Olympic ranks 30 years later at the Albertville 1992 Olympic Winter Games in France. Canada's best biathlon performance was a pair of gold medals at the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Norway.
From 2007 to 2010, fifteen twenty-five cent coins were issued to celebrate the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. The series include ten winter sports designs, two paralympic special issues and three designs that represent previous Canadian Winter Olympics medals. Also, two Lucky Loon were issued as a good luck symbol to support canadian athletes in 2008 and 2010.
