Celebrating the 2013 World Baseball Classic Tournament

The World Baseball Classic tournament brings the best professional baseball players from around the world to one exciting international tournament. Created by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, the first World Baseball Classic tournament was held in 2006 and the second in 2009. In both events, Japan emerged the victor.

The third World Baseball Classic  tournament, in March 2013, expands the number of participating countries from 16 to 28. This broadened participation promises to be a major highlight for sports fans and baseball lovers around the globe.

This truly international event has had qualifying rounds in Germany, Panama, Taiwan, and the United-States. The growing number of participating countries attests to the global appeal of the World Basebbal Classic tournament and underscores the growing popularity of baseball around the world.

This coin is the fifth in the World Baseball Classic tournament series and contains seven coins released in 2013. Four of them are in fine silver with a face value of 20-dollar. The three others are pure gold. Two of them have a 75-dollar face value and the last one is valued at 150-dollar.
