The Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet is a modern, twin-engine, single-seat, transport-capable fighter, directly derived from the original McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet design. Larger and heavier than its predecessor, it features significantly improved flight and combat performance. The most notable evolutionary changes can be seen in the revised wing shape, which guarantees maximum performance, particularly in terms of maneuverability. Other improvements can be seen in the new engine intake ramps, as well as in the improved tailplane design. The aircraft entered service with the US Navy in the early 2000s as a replacement for the F-14 Tomcat, with the primary role of fleet air defense. Deployed with an increased range and the adoption of improved avionics systems, it is one of the most effective carrier-based fighters. It is armed with a 20mm M61 internal cannon and can carry air-to-air missiles mounted on its underwing hardpoints. The two-seater F / A-18F Super Hornet was designed and developed from its predecessor single-seater version. The aircraft has demonstrated great operational flexibility, notably in fleet air defense, ground attack, close support and interdiction.
